Thinking of travelling alone? Here’s how to do it in style

Lone travelers will find every detail is taken care of on a Jules Verne holiday, says loyal customer Denis Browne

Travel is my hobby and passion. I try to go abroad at least twice a year and particularly like Eastern Europe.

I’ve been travelling with Jules Verne since 2014, having first encountered them the previous year, when I was cruising on the Dalmatian Coast with another operator. I was so impressed by the Jules Verne tour manager’s organisation and care for his guests that I investigated them when I got home and booked a trip to Prague and a cruise in Bordeaux.

I’m a financial administrator and I like to have everything organized and planned in advance – and Jules Verne does this wonderfully from beginning to end. Even the booking experience is good. The guides are really brilliant. They know their countries so well and can share past experiences as well as an outlook for the future, which adds an extra dimension to the visit.

My most memorable trip was to Albania. I didn’t know what to expect beyond Tirana, but the country’s beaches and national parks were marvelous.

I frequently travel solo – as friends and family aren’t always free to go – and some destinations I want to visit, such as Albania and Siberia, aren’t on everyone’s wish list.

Traveling with Jules Verne gives me an extra level of safety and security – I know I’ll be taken care of. The group dynamics are wonderful and my fellow travelers are lovely people. On the eight tours I’ve taken with Jules Verne, I’ve never met anyone I didn’t want to sit next to.

I’m very loyal to Jules Verne now and have booked three tours with them over the next 12 months. I’ll sail from Bergen to Kirkenes and fly on to St Petersburg on the Arctic Wonders and Imperial Treasures trip, then cruise the Cape Verde archipelago and take a trip to Iceland. I’m really looking forward to them all.
